Visit the New Mesquite CVB Website The Mesquite Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to reveal its new website. The vibrant website is the ultimate resource to learn more on the dining, lodging, and attraction experiences in Mesquite. The new site comes with a robust event calendar that shows what is happening around Mesquite on any given day and a blog full of write-ups displaying the unique experiences and traditions that make this community a real Texas gem. Along with information on the ideal places in Mesquite to host weddings, family reunions, sports tournaments or conferences. May 16: Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott Visits Mesquite The First Lady of Texas, Mrs. Cecilia Abbott, will visit Downtown Mesquite on May 16 as she leads a celebration of the designation of Mesquite as a Texas Main Street community. The public event will begin at 2 p.m. in Heritage Square, 223 W. Davis Street. The “First Lady’s Tour” is a long-standing tradition of more than 30 years. Mrs. Abbott will speak on the importance of downtown revitalization and unveil an architectural rendering of a portion of Downtown Mesquite, featuring restored historic buildings and updated public spaces. A public reception will follow the ceremony. CVB Partners with Mesquite Rodeo for Billboards Around DFW Area In a cooperative campaign with the Mesquite Championship Rodeo, the CVB logo and website address are displayed on seven billboards throughout the DFW area. This CVB campaign will promote Mesquite to travelers throughout Seagoville, McKinney, Kemp, Sunnyvale, Rowlett, and on I-75 and I-635. The billboard campaign will continue through the end of the summer. May 11: Mudbug Festival On Saturday, May 11th, the Mudbug Festival returns to the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center located in the Mesquite area. This free family fun day includes live animal presentations, education and partnership booths, kid’s activities, face painting, local music, food trucks, ice cream, crawfish, and much more. May 4: Celebrate Cinco De Mayo in Mesquite In partnership with the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite, Cinco De Mayo is a family-friendly event featuring authentic Mexican food, a piñata break, jalapeño eating contest, Folklorico dancers, bounce houses and more. Entrance to the event is free; however, some activities will have a cost. Tickets Available for Devil’s Bowl Speedway Hailed as the Southwest's most great dirt track, Devil's Bowl Speedway is the premier venue for racing entertainment. This month catch a race every Saturday at 6 p.m. at the high banked, is a unique D shape, half-mile track. There is not a bad seat in the house to get a great adrenaline rush. Marketplace Mesquite Browse local Mesquite farmers and artisans at MarketPlace Mesquite. The marketplace brings the community together with locally sourced produce, culinary items, baked goods, foods, and handmade artisan pieces and goods. Catch Marketplace Mesquite on the 2nd and 4th Saturday from April - October in historic Downtown Mesquite. May 17- 18: Mesquite Meander For nine years, Historic Mesquite Inc., and Mesquite Community Theater have collaborated to create a historical stroll through the Mesquite Cemetery. Both groups promise to make this May’s production just as fresh and informational as the first one. On Friday, May 17, join them for ten tours - the first tour starting at 7 p.m. and the last one beginning at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, May 18, tours begin at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until the last one starts at 8 p.m. Each tour has a 10-minute interval between them. May 1 – 12: Mesquite Community Theatre Presents 100 Years of Broadway Enjoy the Mesquite Community Theatre as they continue their rendition of 100 Years of Broadway. Be transported back to the year of 1893 and the birth of American Theatre that created the tradition of Broadway. Theatre has continued to evolve and thrive with the changes in music styles and theatres. Catch performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. May 11: Mesquite Symphony Orchestra: Strength and Power Join the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra as they take you on a compelling musical journey. Featuring Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Zimmer’s Music from Gladiator, Kamen’s Music from Band of Brothers, Desplat’s music from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and Wagner’s Entry of the Gods. May 17: Movies in the Park Mesquite Parks and Recreation invites you to Movies in the Park at Paschall Park located at 1001 New Market Road. Pre-show entertainment begins at 7 p.m. and will include music, dancing, and games. The movies will start at dusk. Patrons are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets, lawn chairs, and blankets. Movies in the Park is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to experience movie watching in the great outdoors. The feature film will be Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. June 1: Rodeo Season Kicks Off with Mark Chestnutt The world-famous rodeo that has been exciting visitors since 1958 is back. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo is thrilled to have Mark Chestnutt kick off the rodeo season with a performance after enjoying all the traditional rodeo events and dining on Texas barbecue. Head to the Mesquite Arena at 7 p.m. to welcome another amazing season. June 8: Summer Sizzle Mesquite’s annual Summer Sizzle festival will be here before we know it. On June 8 from 4 - 10:30 p.m. enjoy a day will be filled with music, food trucks, children’s activities, a mud volleyball tournament and more. Summer Sizzle will end with a fireworks show and memories for the whole family. Entrance into the park is free, but some activities will have a fee.
